India’s Rough Diamond Exports Down in Value and Carats

India’s rough diamond imports in the April 2015 – February 2016 period were 123,394,000 carats of diamonds worth over US$12.6 million, marking a decrease in terms of carats and in dollar value from imports of 132,929,000 carats of diamonds worth nearly US$15.3 million in the April – February 2015 period, according to the latest statistics released by India’s Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC).

In addition, the country’s rough diamond exports, at 27,421,000 carats worth US$1,013.11 million in April 2015 – February 2016, were down compared to the country’s rough exports in the preceding year in carat terms and monetary terms.

India’s cut and polished diamond imports decreased to US$2,510.62 million in the April 2015 – February 2016 period from US$6,098.40 million a year earlier.
