Belgian’s Polished Diamond Exports to Israel Approach US$400 Million

In the January to March 2016 quarter, some $3.43 billion worth of polished diamonds were imported to Antwerp, while polished diamond exports were worth US$3.53 billion, according to the most recent figures from the Antwerp World Diamond Centre. Polished diamond imports decreased 11.37% in terms of carats and by 7.33% in monetary terms from such exports in the first quarter of 2015.

Rough diamond exports during the January to March 2016 quarter were 31.1 million carats worth US$3.19 billion. This represented an increase of 21% in terms of carats and a slight decrease in monetary terms from the first three months of 2015. The country’s rough diamond imports during the quarter increased by 3.43% in terms of carats, while reporting a 7.36% decrease in monetary terms from a year earlier.

Belgium’s polished diamond exports to Israel in the first three months of 2016 reached 107,921.94 carats worth US$388 million, marking a decrease of 10.43% in terms of carats from January – March 2015 and a less than 4% decrease in monetary terms.

Belgium’s polished diamond imports from Israel reached 105,457.17 carats worth US$345,067,148 in January – March 2016. This represented a nearly 19% decrease in terms of carats and a nearly 20% decrease in monetary terms from the first three months of 2015.
