India’s Cut and Polished Diamond Exports Approach US$20 Billion

India’s rough diamond imports in the April 2015 – March 2016 period were 138,406,000 carats of diamonds worth just over US$14 million, marking a decrease in terms of carats and in dollar value from imports of 146,192,000 carats of diamonds worth nearly US$16.8 million in the April – March 2015 period, according to the latest statistics released by India’s Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC).

In addition, the country’s rough diamond exports, at 30,554,000 carats worth US$1,169.43 million in April 2015 – March 2016, were down compared to the country’s rough exports in the preceding year in carat terms and monetary terms.

India’s cut and polished diamond imports decreased to US$2,771.40 million in the April 2015 – March 2016 period from US$6,640.14 million a year earlier.
