India Rough Diamond Imports on the Increase

India’s rough diamond imports in April 2016 reached 15.4 million  carats of diamonds worth just over US$1.88 million, marking an increase in terms of carats and in dollar value from imports of 11.2 million carats of diamonds worth US$1.37 million in April 2015, according to the latest statistics released by India’s Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC).

The country’s rough diamond exports, at 2 million carats worth US$86.14 million in April 2016, were down compared to the country’s rough exports in the preceding year in carat terms and monetary terms.

India’s cut and polished diamond imports decreased to US$223 million in April 2016 from US$244 million a year earlier.
