DUBAI’S TIARA GEMS PURCHASES THE AUD$1 MILLION “KIMBERLEY TREASURE” COIN

Tiara Gems and Jewellery, a Dubai based company, has bought the Perth Mint’s Kimberley Treasure – the world’s first AUD$1 million coin to feature a rare red diamond from its Argyle Diamond Mine, according to Rough & Polished.

“The Kimberley Treasure”, as it is called, weighs one kilogram of 99.99% fine gold, and features a radiant cut 0.54 carat red diamond unearthed from Rio Tinto’s Argyle Diamond Mine in the east Kimberley region of Western Australia.

Simon Trott, managing director of Rio Tinto’s diamonds business, called the coin “a beautiful symbol of the unique treasures of Western Australia”. The Kimberley Treasure is being exhibited at the Perth Mint until 14 August.
