ALROSA’S ROUGH SALES SOAR 58% TO $243 MILLION IN AUGUST

It’s been a very good month for the Russian giant mining company Alrosa: according to Gem Konnect, Alrosa’s sales of rough in August alone amounted to $243 million, up 58% year-on-year. It also sold $6.3 million worth of polished in August.

 

Alrosa sold $3.09 billion worth of rough diamonds over January-August this year – up 23% over the same period last year. In carat terms, it sold 25.4 million carats over the eight-month period, compared to 20.6 million carats during the same period last year. In a statement, Alrosa said it sees a stable market recovery after 2015, but it still maintains a moderately conservative outlook.

 

Polished diamond sales for the same eight-month period totaled $70.5 million – 18% lower year-on-year. However, the combined rough and polished sales for the period, at $3.16 billion, were 21% higher than the same period in 2015.
