LUCAPA RECOVERS A MASSIVE 172.67-CARAT ROUGH FROM LULO

September is turning out to be a very good month for the Lulo mine in Angola, as Australian miner Lucapa has just announced that it found its fifth diamond weighing more than 100 carats for the year. According to Mining Weekly, the stone weighs a massive 172.67 carats.

Lucapa reported on Monday that testing had confirmed the 172.67-carat stone as a Type IIa diamond. The diamond is the sixth 100-carat plus stone recovered from Lulo to date.

Earlier this month, Lucapa reported that a 104-carat diamond had been recovered from the alluvial mining operation. In February this year, a 404-carat diamond was recovered at the Lulo project, the largest recorded diamond ever found in Angola. Lucapa has also recovered a number of special and fancy-coloured diamonds including a 59-carat Type I diamond and a 33-carat Type IIa D-colour gem.
