LONDON’S NATURAL HISTORY MUSEUM TO DISPLAY LARGEST BLUE TOPAZ IN THE WORLD

A giant, 9,381-carat blue topaz, weighing 2 kg, will be displayed at the UK’s National History Museum from October 19, Gem Konnect. The gem is on permanent loan from British entrepreneur and philanthropist Maurice Ostro.

 

The stone was found in Brazil’s Amazon rainforest in the mid 1980s by Ostro’s father, Max, who passed away six years ago. The stone has been in the family’s vaults all these years.

 

According to to the museum, “The Ostro stone is the largest cut topaz to go on show at the museum…It is an impressive 9,381 carats and will be displayed alongside specimens from one of the world’s most important mineral collections”.
