ALROSA’S PRODUCTION DOWN 6% IN FIRST NINE MONTHS OF 2016

Giant Russian miner Alrosa has reported its Q3 and nine months 2016 production and sales. According to the report, Alrosa produced 27.9 million carats in the first nine months of the year – down 6% year-on-year.

In Q3, the miner sold 8.3 million carats of diamonds, including 5.8 million carats of gem-quality diamonds at an average price of $165 per carat and 2.5 million carats of industrial diamonds at an average price of $7 per carat. Revenue from rough diamond sales amounted to at least $976 million in Q3 and at least $3.5 billion in in the first nine months of the year.

The decrease in production in the first nine months of the year is attributed to several factors, including decrease in gravels processing from Nyurba Division, decrease in ore production at Aikhal underground mine and the termination of open-pit mining at Udachnaya pipe.
