ALROSA’S SALES UP 26% TO $4.5 BILLION IN 2016

Alrosa has announced its rough and polished diamond sale results for both December 2016 and interim results for 2016. According to Diamond World, while total sales in December were weakened by the demonetization in India, preliminary figures indicate that for 2016, sales of rough and polished diamonds totaled $4.486 billion – a rise of 26% year-on-year.

In December, Alrosa sold $173 million worth of rough diamonds and $3.3 million worth of polished diamonds. Total diamond sales in December amounted to $176.3 million.

Yury Okoemov, ALROSA Vice President, said: “Sales results in December in the small-size segment still reflect weakening of small and middle-size Indian diamond-cutting companies due to the monetary reform underway in this country. Activity in other market segments corresponded to the seasonality of demand and our expectations”.
