CVD Synthetic Diamond Identified by GIA

THE DPA TO AUDIT SYNTHETICS DIAMOND DETECTORS

The Diamond Producers Association (DPA) is planning to test diamond-screening devices currently sold in the market and publish its results to the trade, according to a report by Rapaport, as quoted by Art of Jewelry.

The DPA “aims to gather a committee of representatives from major industry organizations by the end of March to assess the scope of the program”, according to the report. Currently, there are more than different companies or laboratories that produce devices for screening diamonds, ranging from $4,000 to $350,000, according to research by Surat-based DRC Techno quoted in the piece.

Jean-Marc Lieberherr, CEO of the DPA, clarified that the independent device-testing by the DPA “would not rank equipment or make recommendations, but would carry out objective and robust testing so diamond companies could know the market better”.
