Alrosa CEO Andrey Zharkov

REPORT: ANDREY ZHARKOV COULD BE STEPPING DOWN AS ALROSA’S PRESIDENT

Andrey Zharkov has stepped down from his post as Alrosa’s President, according to a report in Interfax, quoted by Rough & Polished. Zharkov announced his resignation from the diamond miner at a status meeting on Tuesday (February 21). According to the report, “this matter has not yet formally been brought up for consideration of the Supervisory Board”.

The sources of Interfax said that Zharkov had “disagreements with officials from the Finance Ministry”, headed by Anton Silualov, who is also the head of the Supervisory Board of Alrosa.

According to a piece in Bloomberg quoted by Rough & Polished, the Russian government is considering replacing Zharkov with Sergey Ivanov, Jr., Vice-President of Sberbank and the son of Sergey Ivanov, the former head of the Russian President’s Administration. A possible Zharkov’s successor could also be Igor Ryaschin, the former senior vice president of Alrosa, who left the company in 2016 and is now an adviser to the Minister of Finance.
