DOMINION’S DIAMOND FISCAL SALES DROP SHARPLY IN Q4

Dominion Diamond Corporation has published results for its rough diamond sales in the 4th quarter (November 2016 – January 2017).

According to a report in Gem Konnect, rough diamond sales totaled 1.4 million carats for $129.9 million from the Ekati and Diavik mines in Canada – compared to 1.1 million carats for $178.1 million in the fourth quarter of the previous fiscal year. The figures represent a sharp drop of 27% in the dollar value of sales, and a 24% increase in total carats sold, “due primarily to the availability for sale of rough diamonds from high grade Misery Main pipe ore at the Ekati mine”.

According to the miner, sales were “affected by the process plant fire at the Ekati mine and the negative fallout of India’s currency reform in November last year”.

Dominion plans to hold two rough diamond sales in the first quarter of fiscal 2018.
