The Jonker 5 by Harry Winston

CHRISTIE’S TO OFFER THE RARE 25.27-CARAT JONKER NO. 5 DIAMOND FOR SALE

Auction House Christie’s in Hong Kong is set to offer the Jonker No. 5 diamond at its Spring auction on May 30, IDEX Online reports. The Jonker No. 5 diamond is part of a diamond collection cut from the massive 726-carat Jonker rough diamond, which was discovered by Jacob Jonker in 1934.

“When found in January 1934, it was the fourth-largest gem quality diamond ever uncovered”, according to the report. In 1935, it was purchased by Harry Winston and displayed during the Silver Jubilee Celebrations of the Coronation of King George V and Queen Mary.

According to a press release by Christie’s, “Before the Jonker rough was cut, it was painstakingly examined for months before taking its final form of 13 exquisite polished pieces, of which the Jonker Diamond No. 5 was born as a rectangular-cut diamond of 25.27 carats”.
