Rough Diamonds DTC Kimberly

The Diamond Trading Company (DTC)

The DTC (Diamond Trading Company) is the marketing arm of the famous diamond company, De Beers. The DTC was established in 1934 and over the years has developed a special marketing system for the supply of rough diamonds to choice customers called “sightholders.” Sightholders are provided with rough diamonds 10 times a year. These customers use the name DTC as a mark of quality for diamonds that they sell downstream.

DTC sorts, evaluates and sells about 40% of all the rough diamonds sold worldwide. It also develops and manufactures diamond technologies in order to ensure the regular supply of rough stones to its customers. The DTC operates joint ventures in South Africa (DTCSA), Botswana (DTCB), Namibia (NDTC) and Britain (DTC). In 2007, the company’s revenues from rough diamond sales reached $6.839 billion and its profits came to $483 million.
