Memorial Day

THE IDE MARKS THE HOLOCAUST REMEMBRANCE DAY

On Monday, April 24, 2017, the Israel Diamond Exchange will hold a remembrance ceremony on 10 a.m. The ceremony will be held at the Trading Hall of the bourse.

The Holocaust remembrance day is a national day of mourning in Israel. It is dedicated to the commemoration of the six million Jews who perished in the Holocaust by Nazi Germany and its allies, and for the Jewish resistance in that period.

At 10:00 a.m., an air raid siren sounds throughout the country. Israelis everywhere stop what they are doing, including motorists, to stand in silence and observe two minutes of solemn reflection. Ceremonies and services are held at schools, military bases and other public organizations. Flags on public buildings are flown at half mast, and Israeli television airs Holocaust documentaries and Holocaust-related content.

The Holocaust Remembrance Day in Israel is held on the 27th of Nisan, a date set by the Knesset in 1951. It is held six days after Passover and a week before the Memorial Day for the Fallen Soldiers of Israel.
