Rough Ruby

LARGEST EVER ISRAELI RUBY FOUND IN THE KISHON RIVER

Exploration and mining company Shefa Yamim has unearthed the biggest ruby ever found in Israel, weighing 1.7 carats. According to Walla News, the stone was found along the Kishon mid-reach in the “multi-commodity deposit”, which hosts a potential of precious minerals.

The deposit has led to some findings before, including Corundum and the Carmel Sapphire – a rare stone that can only be found in Israel. Shefa Yamim announced that the size of the ruby found may be an indication of more stones in the deposit.

The company also said that it will continue to explore the area, with a focus on those areas where precious minerals were found so far. The economic viability of the deposit will be determined only after further exploration.
