ATTEMPT TO ROB 2 JEWELRY STORES IN ONE DAY RESULTS IN LENGTHY PRISON SENTENCE

A Philadelphia man was sentenced to 33 years in prison for his involvement in the violent armed robbery of one diamond and fine jewelry store and an attempted armed robbery of a different jewelry store on one day in April 2014, according to a United States government press release.

The man, along with 3 armed co-conspirators initially attempted to steal Rolex watches and other valuables from a jewelry store, but they were forced to flee empty-handed when the store owners shot one of the robbers. During the course of that attempted robbery, one robber used a hammer to smash the Rolex watch display while three other robbers, one armed with a gun, rushed the back area of the store looking for other valuables.

Just hours later, three of the men, dressed in identical clothes as the robbers earlier that day, entered a diamond and fine jewelry store where they held employees and customers at gunpoint as they stole approximately US$1.3 million worth of Rolex watches before fleeing the store.

“The convictions and lengthy sentence should serve as a reminder to anyone who would travel to Michigan with the intent to commit a crime, particularly violent crimes, that the FBI, along with its federal, state and local partners, will locate them and bring them to justice,” says FBI Detroit Division Special Agent in Charge David P. Gelios.
