CHINA: MAN STOPPED AT CUSTOMS WITH 1,000 DIAMONDS IN HIS SHOES

There’s always a first for everything: according to several Chinese news sources, a man tried to breeze through a Shenzhen immigration control point with 1,000 diamonds hidden in his shoes.

According to the reports, customs officials saw the man walking on tiptoe, and naturally became suspicious. They stopped the man, asked him to remove his shoes, and found the loot hidden under his insoles. The diamonds reportedly weighed 212.9 carats, and the man is still held for further investigation.

This is the second such smuggling incident this month at Shenzhen. In early March, customs officials arrested a man carrying 1,554 diamonds weighing 164 carats.
