CHINA: ACCIDENTS IN TWO NEIGHBOURING GOLD MINES LEAVE 11 DEAD OVER THE WEEKEND

Two horrific accidents at two neighbouring gold mines in central China’s Henan province killed 11 people on Friday, according to a report in Mining Weekly citing Reuters.

 

In one accident, the pit at the Qinling gold mine of China National Gold Group in Lingbao City was enveloped in thick smoke on Friday morning. It trapped 12 workers and six management staff. According to the report, “rescue workers retrieved seven bodies on Friday night”, while one other worker died later in the hospital and another worker’s body was retrieved on Saturday afternoon.

 

On the same day, a “similar accident was reported in a neighbouring gold mine”. Six workers were trapped, four were rescued, and two workers were found dead later that evening.
