INDIA’S EXPORTS OF POLISHED DIAMONDS RISE 3.3% IN FEBRUARY

Provisional data released by The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) show that exports of cut and polished diamonds from India totaled $2.41 billion in February 2017 – a rise of 3.27% year-on-year. Exports of gold jewellery fell 46% to $418.99 million year-on-year.

 

Overall exports from the gem and jewellery sector during February 2017 stood at $3.91 billion – a rise of 1.8% year-on-year.

 

Rough imports totaled $1.51 billion – down 2.9% in value terms year-on-year. In volume terms, 17.8 million carats of rough were imported during the month – a rise of 14.1% year-on-year. Coloured gemstone exports dropped to $51.29 million as compared to $65.2 million exported a year earlier.

 

During the first eleven months of fiscal 2017, overall exports from the gem and jewellery sector totaled $38.97 billion – a rise of 9.55% year-on-year. Exports of cut and polished diamonds for the April 2016-February 2017 period were up 11% to $20.92 billion. During the fiscal year to date, import of rough diamonds rose 22.17% to $15.46 billion year-on-year.
