LUCARA TO SELL BATCH OF 1,300 CARATS OF EXCEPTIONAL STONES IN MAY

Lucara, which owns and operates the Karowe diamond mine in Botswana, has announced the dates for its first Exceptional Stone Tender of 2017. Viewings for the tender will take place from May 3, 2017 through May 11, 2017.

The sale will include “no less than 13 exceptional diamonds, inclusive of the magnificent 374 carat Type IIa diamond and an additional three or four stones larger than 100 carats”, according to a press release. The combined weight of diamonds for Lucara’s 11th Exceptional Stone Tender is expected to be greater than 1,300 carats, says Lucara.

In late February, Lucara reported the financial results for 2016, showing revenues of $295.5 million or $824 per carat and EBITDA (Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization) of $185.4 million. In Karowe, the miner reported diamond recoveries totaling 353,974 carats, in line with forecast.
