From One Store to a National Chain: The Story of Ernest Jones

Ernest Jones was established in London in 1949 as a single store on Oxford Street. Today, according to its website, it has over 196 jewelry stores nationwide.

Ernest Jones has a wide collection of diamonds, including engagement rings, eternity rings, cocktail rings and vintage pieces, necklaces, bracelets, earrings and more. It also has a patented precision cut called the Leo Diamond. The company’s watch collection includes prestigious brands, from TAG Heuer to Gucci. Ernest Jones employs watchmakers and according to the company, it has more technically qualified watchmakers than any other UK jeweler.

Ernest Jones is part of the Signet Group, the largest specialty jewelry retailer in the US, UK and Canada. Signet’s UK division operates approximately 500 stores, primarily under the name brands of H. Samuel and Ernest Jones. In 2015, according to the Signet Group’s website, Ernest Jones accounted for 6% of Signet’s sales with sales of £217.8 million (approximately $310 million) and average sales per store of £1.1 million (approximately $1.5 million).
