Hearts and Arrows Diamonds

The Hearts and Arrows Diamonds first surfaced in the mid-1980s in Japan, and refer to a pattern that embodies three factors.

First, they are cut to “ideal proportions”. Second, they are cut with superior physical and optical symmetry. And finally, they are cut to a specific brilliantine scheme to produce the accepted Hearts and Arrows pattern. The result: a near perfect pattern of eight symmetrical arrows when viewed through the top, and eight symmetrical hearts when viewed through the bottom.

Less than 1% of the world’s diamonds are cut to hearts and arrows optical symmetry precision. Hearts and Arrows diamonds command a high price in the market, largely due to the greater time needed to produce them, as well as the greater loss of weight from rough. According to Online Diamond Buying Advice, a standard “ideal cut” diamond can take on average an hour to polish, while a Hearts and Arrows diamond can take up to four days to polish.
