Emerald diamond ring

The Victory Diamond

The Victory Diamond is a 31.34-carat D-color Type IIa potentially flawless stone. It was dubbed the Victory Diamond as it was found in 1945, the year that World War II ended.

Before being emerald-cut, it was the largest alluvial rough diamond ever discovered up until that point, at 770 carats, and it remains the sixth-largest rough diamond ever discovered till this day. Back then, it was known as the Woyie River Diamond, since it emerged from that body of water in present-day Sierra Leone. The stone was then partitioned into 30 individual diamonds; the gem that became the Victory was the largest of these.

On May 13, 2014, auction house Sotheby’s intends to sell The Victory to the highest bidder at its Magnificent Jewels and Noble Jewels event in Geneva, Switzerland. Its sale price could reach between $5 to $8 million.
