3rd-Generation Master Cindy Chao Dedicated To Her Art

Chao is a highly sought-after Chinese luxury jewelry designer. Since she founded her namesake firm in 2004 in Taipei, her pieces have been sold all over the world, from Hong Kong to Dubai. Her work is prized at auctions by firms such as Sotheby’s and Christie’s and is put on public display in art galleries and museum exhibitions, such as Washington, D.C.’s Smithsonian Natural History Museum in 2009. At the Academy Awards in 2012, an actress who wore Chao’s Arts Jewel Maple Leaves earrings and Flaming Floral Ruby Cuff, was named best dressed at the event. Chao’s Majestic Beauty Fan was commission by De Beers for the British Queen’s diamond jubilee celebrations that same year.

Chao’s connection to the world of design predates even her birth: her grandfather Xie Zinan is considered by some to be the premier 20th century designer of monumental architecture. Her father, too, was a skillful sculptor, and Chao inherited these traditions and incorporated them into her jewelry work, seeing each one as a piece of art unto itself. Like many consummate artists, Chao avoids the press, preferring to speak through her body of work.
