INDIA: DIAMOND EXPORTS UP 29% IN JANUARY

Data released by India’s Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) and quoted by Rough & Polished shows that exports of cut and polished diamonds from India increased to $2.08 billion in January – a jump of 28.8% year-on-year.

 

In value terms, rough imports went up 13.7% year-on-year during January, totaling $1.44 billion. In volume terms, rough imports declined to 13.3 million carats. Imports of cut and polished diamonds decreased by 20.9% year-on-year to $136.23 million in January 2018.

 

For the first ten months of the fiscal year 2017-18 (April 2017-January 2018) polished diamond exports were up 4.2% year-on-year to $19.28 billion. During the same period, imports of rough diamonds grew 11.1% year-on-year, totaling $15.53 billion. In volume terms, imports rose by 36.4% year-on-year to 162.32 million carats.
