INDIA: DIAMOND EXPORTS SOAR IN JUNE, GOLD JEWELRY DROPS

Data released by The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) and quoted by Art of Jewelry shows that exports of cut and polished diamonds from India totaled $1.98 billion in June 2017 – a rise of 7.47% year-on-year. In addition, exports of gold jewelry dropped almost 40% year-on-year, totaling $436.7 million.

 

Overall exports from the gem and jewelry sector totaled $3.3 billion – a slight decline year-on-year. Rough imports totaled $1.78 billion – a rise of 50% year-on-year. 23.5 million carats of rough were imported – double the imports during June 2016.

 

Imports of cut and polished diamonds dropped 9.25% year-on-year to $228.46 million in June 2017. Exports of cut and polished diamonds in April-June 2017 were up 3.19% year-on-year, totaling $5.78 billion.
