Examining rough diamonds

INDIA: POLISHED EXPORTS JUMP 20% IN AUGUST

Data released by India’s Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) and quoted by Rough & Polished shows that the country’s polished diamond exports rose 19.97% year-on-year in August 2018, totaling $2.18 billion.

 

Rough imports fell 7.77% in value in August, totaling $899.58 million. In volume terms, rough imports declined to 7.76 million carats from 9.09 million carats in August 2017. Imports of cut and polished diamonds were down 14.13% to $123.85 million.

 

From April to August, polished diamond exports were up 11.56% to $10.31 billion, compared to the same period last year. Imports of polished diamonds fell 41.24% to $ 605.63 million during the same period. Import of rough diamonds declined 6.92% to $7.16 billion. In volume terms, imports fell 8.99% to 66.24 million carats.
