INDIA’S DIAMOND EXPORTS DROP SHARPLY IN SEPTEMBER 2018

Data released by The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) and quoted by Rough & Polished shows that India’s exports of cut and polished diamonds dropped 10.78% year-on-year to $ 2.37 billion in September.

 

Rough imports fell 14.49% to $ 1.25 billion during the month. In volume terms, rough imports increased from 15.72 million in September 2017 to 16.10 million carats in September 2018. Imports of cut and polished diamonds fell 6.56% to $162.86 million in September 2018.

 

From April to September 2018, polished diamond exports rose 6.58% year-on-year to $12.68 billion, while imports of polished diamonds fell 36.21% to $768.60 million. Imports of rough diamonds declined 8.14% to $8.42 billion. In volume terms, imports fell 7.03% to 84.66 million carats.
