INDIA’S GEM AND JEWELRY EXPORTS RISE 12% IN 9 MONTHS LEADING TO DECEMBER

According to data released by GJEPC and reported by Diamond World, India’s gross exports of gems and jewelry rose 22.38% year-on-year in December, 2016, totaling $3094.80 million. Gross imports fell 3.8% during the period, totaling $2,174.19 million

 

Polished diamond exports increased 22.51% to $1,478.75 million, while imports of polished diamonds fell 14.1% to $205.35 million.

 

From April to December 2016, gross exports of gems and jewelry rose almost 12% to $32,032.42 million, while gross imports increased 23.71% to $21,462.32 million. Polished diamond exports from April to December 2016 increased 13% year-on-year to total $16,884.37 million, while gross imports of polished diamonds fell 3.8% during the period to total $2,012.37 million. As for gross imports of rough diamonds in these nine months, they rose 26% to $12,689.33 million, as well as rising 8.24% in terms of volume.
