Post-Covid: China’s Diamond Trade Bounces Back in H1 2021

Petra Diamonds has announced the recovery a 138.57-carat diamond at its Cullinan Mine in South Africa.
The stone is a Type IIa, D-color diamond of exceptional color and clarity, according to the company. The diamond will be offered for sale as part of Petra’s next sales process in late August in Johannesburg.
In June, Petra recovered a 121.26 carat white diamond from Cullinan. A month later, the stone sold for $6 million, equating to some $49,480 per carat. In 2014, the miner unearthed an exceptional 232.08 carat white diamond from the same mine.
Cullinan is one of the world’s most celebrated diamond mines. It earned its place in history with the discovery of the Cullinan diamond in 1905, the largest rough gem diamond ever found at 3,106 carats. This iconic stone was cut into the two most important diamonds which form part of the Crown Jewels in the Tower of London.
