Auction Highlights: $8.8M Blue Diamond Sale, Ruby Ring Exceeds Expectations

A 5.72-carat fancy intense blue diamond shattered previous estimates, fetching $8.8 million at Christie’s Magnificent Jewels auction in New York. The cushion-cut, VVS1 clarity diamond became the auction’s top lot, selling for $1,539,336 per carat. The auction totaled $49.2 million, with 97% of the 179 lots sold.

At a Sotheby’s New York auction, a 10.33-carat Burmese ruby ring sold for $5.5 million, far surpassing pre-sale estimates. The event saw 92% of its lots sold, generating a total of $30 million. Notable sales included a 7-carat fancy intense purple-pink diamond, which fetched $3.42 million.

 

Exceptional Ruby diamond ring

In a separate Doyle New York auction, a 15.76-carat Bulgari emerald-cut diamond ring sold for $1.175 million. The diamond, graded E color and VS1 clarity, was part of the late philanthropist Joanne B. Breyer’s collection. The auction also featured a 21.27-carat fancy yellow diamond ring, which sold for $572,000. Altogether, the sale of 243 lots brought in $8.78 million.
