You may not have heard of her unless you’re fluent in Chinese languages, because most of Zhang Jingchu’s filmography is made up of movies in Mandarin and Cantonese. But she herself is fluent in English, as she demonstrated in the Hollywood action-comedy Rush Hour 3. She first achieved celebrity status in 2005 with the film Peacock, which won at the Berlin International Film Festival. That year, Time Magazine called her one of “Asia’s heroes”.
Just under two months ago, diamond company De Beers shot an advertising campaign on the Israeli side of the Dead Sea, starring Zhang. She was originally supposed to shot the advert in Paris, but since Zhang was already in Jerusalem shooting another film, De Beers decided to switch locations.
Just one month ago, Zhang attended the Cannes film festival wearing 21 carats of polished diamond jewelry designed by Mouawad, valued at one million dollars.
