Russian mining giant Alrosa has published its preliminary rough and polished sales results for May 2021.

Rough and polished diamonds totaled $365 million in May. Rough diamond sales totaled $346 million, while polished diamond sales totaled $19 million. For the first five months of 2021, total rough and polished diamond sales totaled $1.926 billion, including $1.855 billion of rough diamond sales and $71 million of polished sales.

Evgeny Agureev, Deputy CEO of Alrosa, commented on the results: “Our May sales results demonstrate strong demand coming from the Indian midstream […] End-demand for diamond jewelry remains robust in all key regions. For the first four months of the year jewelry sales exceeded pre-COVID levels of 2019 by 30% in the US, and by 10% in China”.
