It’s Been a Very Good Year: Christie’s Hong Kong Rakes In $835 Million in 2022

Christie’s Hong Kong announced its financial results for 2022, reporting an annual running total of $835 million – the third highest on record – “exceeding pre-pandemic level,” according to a press release.

 

During the year, there were 21% new buyers, 40% of new buyers were millennials, and 30% of buyers bought online. 15 auction records were set, and 58 lots achieved over HK$10 million (about $1.285 million). In addition, a record-breaking 30 million viewers watched the auction live-streams. 

 

Watches realized an annual sales total of over HK$500 million ($69 million) for a second consecutive year at Christie’s Asia. The Magnificent Jewels Sales raked in HK$359,380,860 ($46,222,488).

 

Francis Belin, President, Christie’s Asia Pacific, commented, “There have been numerous positive takeaways throughout Christie’s Hong Kong Autumn Auctions, demonstrating market resilience and enduring appeal of art and luxury amidst global economic volatility […]”.
