DE BEERS RAKES IN $450 MILLION IN 10TH SALES CYCLE

Anglo American has announced the value of rough diamond sales (Global Sightholder Sales and Auction Sales) for De Beers’ 10th sales cycle of 2017, amounting to $450 million. In its 9th cycle, De Beers’ value of rough diamond sales amounted to $455 million.

Bruce Cleaver, CEO of De Beers, said: “The tenth sales cycle of the year saw the continuation of good demand for De Beers rough diamonds as we head towards the end of 2017. Demand was broadly stable on the levels seen in Cycle 9, with sales slightly ahead of the equivalent period in 2016”.

In its third quarter production report published in late October, Anglo American showed an increase of 46% in diamond production compared to the previous quarter. In volume, the miner produced 9.2 million carats. At De Beers, “stable trading conditions supported an increase in rough diamond production, driven principally by Debswana, and the ramp-up of Gahcho Kué”. Mark Cutifani, Anglo American Chief Executive, commented regarding the third quarter numbers, that the company has “delivered another strong production performance across our business […]”.
