India: Polished Exports Go Way Down in October

Figures recently published by India’s GJEPC (Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council) and quoted by IDEX Online show that India’s overall gross export of cut & polished diamonds went down 26% to total $1.89 billion in October.

Polished imports fell 23.4%, totalling $99.2 million. Overall exports across the whole gem and jewelry sector totaled $3.13 billion in October – a fall of 22.4% year-on-year.

For April to October, exports fell 5.5% to $14.1 billion, “evidence that the slowdown is becoming more significant,” according to the report.
