Canada: Company Produces Country’s First Ever Lab-Grown Diamonds

A Canadian company, Groupe RSL, has opened Canada’s first lab-grown diamonds factory, IDEX Online reports.

The factory, which was opened in Quebec, uses “hydroelectric power to produce gems” while utilizing what it describes as a “unique version of the CVD process.”

Luke Sinclair, the company’s CFO, commented: “Recent research has brought to light a new idea, using hydrogen and methane gas in a controlled reaction. Consumers are seeking greater transparency in the diamonds that they purchase, and we firmly believe that the industry need not be at odds with the environment or principles of social responsibility.”

According to Groupe RSL, it is “currently producing large diamonds for the premium jewelry market.”
