Diamonds have played a prominent part in a number of episodes of comedienne and TV host Ellen DeGeneres’ daily talk show.
In 2010, rapper Kayne West appeared on Ellen for an interview and unveiled some new dental work – a row of teeth replaced by diamonds.
West told DeGeneres that he thought the diamonds were “just cooler.”
That same year, Michael Grimm – winner of America’s Got Talent – whipped out a diamond engagement ring and proposed to his girlfriend, who accepted.
When kid pop star Willow Smith (daughter of Will Smith) appeared on Ellen DeGeneres’ show, the host presented her with a diamond-encrusted pink and blue neck brace, so the young singer wouldn’t hurt her neck while performing her hit song “Whip My Hair.”
In spring of 2011, the diamond company Diamond Styles chose Ellen as a platform to unveil its new retail jewelry website, PrincessDiStyle.com. The company’s new jewelry line features diamond and sapphire jewelry inspired by the late Princess of Wales’ engagement ring. All 400 audience members received diamond and sapphire pendants, and the company also offered a 25% discount on a first purchase at PrincessDiStyle.com. A portion of the proceeds is donated to Princess Diana’s charities.
Of course, diamonds can be more personal. When Ellen DeGeneres proposed to her girlfriend Portia Di Rossi, she presented Di Rossi with a three-carat Neil Lane platinum ring featuring a marquise-cut diamond set in pave pink diamonds.
