A recent survey by Chow Tai Fook reveals that 74% of Chinese consumers consider natural diamonds more valuable than lab-grown ones (LGD), IDEX Online reports. The huge jewelry group said that it believes that consumer demand will keep natural diamonds at the forefront of the market.
Chow Tai Fook’s inaugural Jewellery Consumer Trends Report, based on a survey of 5,000 online participants aged 18-40 across 507 cities in Mainland China and Hong Kong, shows that more than 70% find natural diamonds more valuable, premium, luxurious, and better for investment than LGDs.
In China’s Tier 1 cities, like Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen, 56% said they would buy natural diamonds in the next year. Chow Tai Fook notes that 51% of surveyed consumers prefer natural diamond jewelry over other gemstones. The report also highlights that 61% of Mainland Chinese and Hong Kong consumers who wear diamond jewelry find it suitable for everyday occasions, a finding that, according to Chow Tai Fook, indicates “substantial market potential.”
