Singer Whitney Houston wearing diamond earrings

WHITNEY HOUSTON: DIAMOND CELEBRITY OF THE WEEK

Whitney Houston, who died this Saturday at age 48, is one of the few artists to have an album go Diamond. Houston’s self-titled debut (1985) sold 1,000,000 units and was certified Diamond in 1999.

But not only Whitney Houston’s music was “diamond.” Like most celebrities, the singer also knew how to wear diamond jewelry.
Houston’s engagement ring, given to her by Bobby Brown, features an unusual combination of diamond cuts – a large oval-cut diamond (some reports list the diamond’s weight as 4 carats, others say 10 carats) is flanked by two smaller trilliant-cut diamonds.
On the red carpet, Whitney Houston wore pieces by top-tier jewelry designers. At the American Music Awards in 2009, she wore a platinum and diamond ruffle cuff bracelet and white and black diamond chandelier earrings, set in platinum, all designed by Neil Lane.
For the 51st Grammy Awards, the singer wore fan-shaped diamond earrings designed by Lorraine Schwartz.
