Energy Exec Al Cook to Replace Bruce Cleaver as De Beers Group CEO

Bruce Cleaver, who’s been heading the De Beers Group since  2016, will step down early next year as CEO and will become co-chairman of De Beers. Al Cook, a top executive at the Norwegian energy giant Equinor, will take over as CEO, IDEX Online reports. 

 

Cook is currently executive vice president of exploration and production international at Equinor, a Norwegian state-owned multinational energy company that operates “in 12 countries across  Africa, North America, South America and Europe.” Before that, Cook worked at BP for 20 years.

 

Cleaver joined De Beers Group in 2005 and has been a board director since 2008. According to the company, during his tenure, “De Beers launched the world’s largest and most sophisticated diamond recovery and exploration vessels and redesigned supply agreements with Sightholders to enhance the efficiency of rough diamond distribution.”
