Christie’s Auction: Yellow Rose Diamond Sells for Staggering $6.7 Million

At a recent Christie’s Magnificent Jewels sale in Geneva, an unmounted pear-cut 202.18-carat, Fancy Intense Yellow, SI1-clarity Diamond, stole the show, commanding a price tag of $6.7 million. This sale marked the second-highest price ever recorded for a diamond of similar color and size, Rough & Polished reports.

 

Originating from South Africa, the Yellow Rose diamond is a rare gem, only the third of its kind to appear at auction. Its sale contributed to a collection of high-value jewels that amassed an impressive $54.2 million at the Magnificent Jewels sale.

 

Rare Gems Fetch Millions at Auction

Other highlights from the auction included a 25.20-carat pink sapphire, which sold for $1.5 million; a cushion-shaped 11.03-carat Kashmir sapphire and diamond ring that raked in $1.4 million; and a cushion-shaped 5.03-carat pigeon’s blood Burmese ruby ring with old-cut diamonds, also fetching $1.4 million

 

In other auction news, at a recent Phillips Geneva auction on May 13, a stunning 6.21-carat Fancy Vivid Pink diamond stole the spotlight, fetching an impressive $12 million. The Type IIa diamond, set in a ring of VS1 clarity, fell within the pre-sale estimate range of $10.5 million to $15 million.
