The Light of Peace, an internally flawless, D-color diamond weighing 126.76 carats, fetched $13.6 million at Christie’s Magnificent Jewels auction in New York on June 7. In total, the auction raked in $50.7 million, according to IDEX Online.
The Light of Peace was presented for sale without a reserve price, and an estimation of between $10 million and $15 million. The exceptional Type IIa diamond, featuring a pear brilliant-cut, was cut from a rough gem weighing 434.6 carats, sourced from Sierra Leone.
Back in 1969, the Zale Corporation of Dallas acquired the diamond and transformed it into the Zale Light of Peace, along with twelve other smaller gems. It was eventually sold in 1980.
