EU ISSUES WARNING ABOUT FAKE SIERRA LEONE KIMBERLEY CERTIFICATES

The European Union has broadcasted a warning about the production of fake Kimberley Process (KP) diamond certificates from Sierra Leone and Central African Republic (CAR), after four fake certificates have been identified – three from Sierra Leone and one from CAR.

Two of the certificates were identified in Belgium, one in Germany and the fourth in CAR, for a parcel containing 2,266.59 carats of diamonds. The KP certificate numbers are: SL 4649, 4658, 4648.

This isn’t the first time that fake KP certificates originate in Sierra Leone: in April and August two fake certificates from the African country were discovered in Hong Kong and the US.
