Indian Man Caught Smuggling 932 Diamonds in Plastic Bags Inside His Body

An unnamed Indian national tried to smuggle hundreds of diamonds in his body, and was caught by customs officers at the Ngurah Rai International Airport, on the Indonesian island of Bali, IDEX Online reports.

 

The 48-year-old, who was said to be an accountant, had arrived from Bangkok, Thailand. According to Imran Yusuf, of the local Badung prosecutors’ office, he “was examined using an X-ray of the abdomen until seven plastic bags filled with diamonds wrapped in condoms were found from inside his anus.”

 

The bags contained 932 diamonds weighing a total of 40.73 carats, with a value of import duties and taxes totalling $6,600. If convicted, the man could be facing up to 18 years in prison.
