Sotheby’s: “Infinite Blue” Diamond Could Fetch $37 Million

Sotheby’s first Fall luxury auction series in Hong Kong, on October 5, will be highlighted by the offering of the “Infinite Blue” – an 11.28-carat radiant-cut Fancy-Vivid blue diamond, estimated to sell for between $26 million to $37 million.

The rare Type IIb stone, which accounts for less than 0.1% of diamonds with such a striking blue color, was cut from a rough found in Petra Diamonds’ Cullinan mine in South Africa. The diamond is set with a halo of pink and white trapezoid diamonds.

The “Infinite Blue” joins other such blue rare gems of over 10 carats from the same mine, including the 14.62-carat Oppenheimer Blue (sold for $57.5 million in 2016); the 15.10-carat De Beers Blue (sold for $57.5 million in 2022); and the Blue Moon of Josephine, a 12.03-carat diamond that sold for $48.5 million in 2015.
