UAE to Chair KP for Second Time in 2024

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) will chair the Kimberley Process again in 2024. According to IDEX Online, the move was approved by delegates at a plenary session in Botswana last week.

Zimbabwe, which has “faced widespread allegations of corruption and brutality in the Marange diamond fields,” according to the report, will chair KP in 2023. This will be Zimbabwe’s first time as chair since the organization was founded to outlaw conflict diamonds in 2003.

UAE chaired KP in 2016. During the plenary session in Botswana, UAE was selected as vice chair in 2023, and will become chair in 2024.
