The “Hollywood: Legends & Royalty” auction at Julien’s Auctions in Los Angeles (September 6-9) has showcased a remarkable pair of matching gold wedding rings that once belonged to Hollywood icons Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall, IDEX Online reports.
The matching set was exchanged between the couple during their May 1945 wedding. Their love story began on the set of “To Have and Have Not” when Bacall was a youthful 19-year-old, and Bogart, a distinguished 45-year-old actor. Their enduring union continued until Bogart’s passing in January 1957, with Bacall herself dead in 2014.
The 14k gold rings, originating from Bogart’s estate, were presented as a single lot and carried an estimated value ranging from $100,000 to $200,000. The auction itself spanned three days and featured over 1,400 items of Hollywood memorabilia.
The auction also included a gold bracelet featuring a whistle charm that Bogart gifted to Bacall, evoking one of her most famous lines from “To Have and Have Not”: “You don’t have to say anything, and you don’t have to do anything. Not a thing. Oh, maybe just whistle.” This piece has been estimated to fetch between $100,000 and $200,000. The sale also offered a heart-shaped gold locket inscribed with the message, “Baby/here’s my heart/Bogie,” with a high estimated value of $20,000.
